N9772 - Jazz Reading and Performance Sessions (Entering Grades 8-12)

Get ready to join a Jazz Ensemble where you start preparing immediately for your LIVE performance at the end of this 8-day program. Music includes well-known pop, funk and jazz standards. Instrument technique will be explained and practiced together, and you will be guided and coached through various improvisatory techniques. Entering 8th-12th grade students are eligible. Students must have a minimum of 2 full-years experience on their instrument. It is preferred that students completed a minimum NYSSMA Level 4, or participated in Middle or High School All-County. Chair placement auditions are held on the first day. Enrollment is on a first-come first-served basis and is limited. Performance is on August 2nd in the evening. Bring a portable music stand, and be sure to label it with your name. 8 sessions

Your instructor, Benjamin Kohn, is a multi-instrumentalist currently studying Music Education at SUNY Fredonia. Kohn sharpens his jazz chops as saxophonist for the elite Fredonia Big Band; has led large ensembles at the Washingtonville Central School District; and conducted pit orchestras for local musical theater (Elf Jr., School of Rock, and The Drowsy Chaperone).
