Zane Grey

Zane Grey (1872-1939) is one of the most well known authors of novels of the American West. While not credited with creating the genre he was one of the first to capitalize on it. His novel The Spirit of the Border: A Romance of the Early Settlers in the Ohio Valley published in 1906 was the first of many novels to follow. A detailed bibliography of Western Fiction and his travel and outdoor writings may be found in Literature Resource Center.

Zane Grey's connection to Middletown, and specifically to the SUNY Orange campus in Middletown, lies where the Biotech Building now stands. It was in a house in that location where Zane Grey and his family lived for a short time around 1915 and where his son and youngest Loren was born.

The library has books about Zane Grey's life and writings available to check out. If you wish to see the collection Zane Grey novels check out the library in Morrison Hall.
