Howard Aschoff Will Discuss Solar Energy; Gordon Smith to Address Energy Efficiency in Buildings

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- SUNY Orange will host a Green Technologies Open House, along with a panel discussion from practitioners in a variety of sustainability-related areas, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, March 15 in the Gilman Center for International Education on the College’s Middletown campus.

Commercial green technology practitioners will discuss aspects of their individual commercial and/or residential work, and will conduct a question and answer discussion period with the audience. Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about regional training resources and courses to be offered by SUNY Orange, including introductory math and electricity courses and courses leading to certification in photovoltaic systems, solar hot water system design and IGSHPA NATE Geothermal Installer Certification.

Howard Aschoff, considered to be at the forefront of the development of solar technology in the Hudson Valley and tri-state area, will lead the discussion. His research and development experience at Honeywell Labs Corp. and Princeton University helped him establish the applied engineering concept that he utilizes in his classes at SUNY Orange.

Gordon Smith, of Renewable Energy Solutions, will also serve on the panel. Renewable Energy Solutions, formed by Smith to offer energy efficiency and alternative energy services, is accredited with the Building Performance Institute (BPI). Smith is certified as a building analyst, an envelope professional, a heating professional, and an air conditioning-heat pump professional. Smith has supervised numerous commercial weatherization jobs involving measures to reduce heat loss through insulation, weather stripping and other air-sealing measures.
