The agreement may be amended as requirements and courses change over time, but such amendments must be agreed upon by both institutions. Articulation Agreement Castleton University is committed to a strong relationship with SUNY Orange. This document fulfills general agreement between our two institutions. Castleton guarantees admission for SUNY Orange graduates who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher with an unemcumbered degree. Students who complete the proposed general education coursework outlined below through SUNY Orange will earn credits towards a bachelor's degree program at the university. CASTLETON APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS UNDER THIS AGREEMENT: - Complete an application through Castleton Admissions: www.castleton.edu/admissions. Application fee will be waived under this agreement. - Submit one-page application essay. The essay is generally reflective. Your topic can focus on what your transitional path has been or your aspirations for Castleton. - Submit your official transcript from SUNY Orange and transcript from all previous colleges/universities. - Submit one letter of recommendation from a professor, employer, or counselor. THE CASTLETON MAPLE AWARD FOR SUNY ORANGE GRADUATES: The Maple Award reduces out-of-state tuition to Vermont resident tuition. Qualified candidates must have earned an associate's degree or be in the process of earning an associate's degree at SUNY Orange prior to enrolling at Castleton University. The award is renewable for students making satisfactory academic progress towards their degree. Recipients must: 1) enroll at Castleton on full-time basis, 2) live on campus, and 3) maintain satisfactory academic progress. ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL AID: Castleton will award need-based financial aid to eligible students. Applicants should complete the Free Application for Federal Students Aid (FAFSA) and add Castleton FAFSA code (003683) to be considered for need-based aid. Note: Courses required for specific majors will be evaluated on course-by-course basis, except for existing programmatic agreements. Candidates should reference the Castleton Course Catalog and consult with their SUNY Orange advisor before completing additional coursework towards an associate's degree program. Transfer credits will be awarded for courses in which a grade of C- or higher is earned. Credits cannot be applied to courses with final grade designation of "P" or "S." Total 40 credits The Castleton General Education Program consists of the following components: - University Writing Standard: include an English composition course, two Writing Intensive (WI) courses, and the writing assessment folder. - Computing requirement: either a foundational or advanced computing intensive course (varies by major). - First-year seminar: students with 12 or more transferable credits are exempt. - Information Literacy & Quantitative Reasoning Standards: online assessments that must be successfully completed prior to graduation. - Literature requirement: complete ENG 2260 Touchstones of Western Literature. - Oral Communication standard: student must pass a public speaking course like ENG 1070 Effective Speaking, and successfully complete a second speaking-intensive course. - Soundings: award-winning program consisting of a 3 course sequence (totaling 2 credits) where students attend a number of on campus cultural events in order to experience the richness and vitality of the liberal arts. Students with 60 or more transferable credits are exempt from the first 1 credit course. - The Frames of Reference: include Aesthetic Understanding, Scientific & Mathematical Understanding, Social & Behavioral Understanding, and World Views.
