Description:

Star Nigro is an award winning professional photographer, interdisciplinary artist, and eco workshop facilitator.

She appreciates the diversity of her background and expresses that in her art. Her series of photographs and photo jewelry celebrating the vitality of the peoples of and everyday life from Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico will be on display in the Mindy Ross Gallery from October 15 through November 21, 2018 under the title

Everyday Latin America  ~ photography & photo jewelry by Star Nigro.

A reception is scheduled for Last Saturday, October 27, from 3:30pm to 5:45pm.

Through her camera’s lens Nigro is inspired by the art of photographing the moment and the organic poetic beauty of life. She transforms her photographs by hand into 3-D objects and functional, wearable art. Her belief is that photographs shouldn’t just hang on the wall but should integrate into everyday living; hence, her photo jewelry collection “Live the Art” speaks her philosophy and approach as an artist.

Star Nigro holds a BFA in photography from the College of Art & Design, Lesley University in Boston, Massachusetts. She has exhibited her artworks in Boston, Albany, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Woodstock, and in galleries in smaller cities as well.

Her versatile artistic background in the fine arts has greatly influenced her innovative approach to teaching. Presently she is the art program director of My Kingston Kids as well as being a teaching artist for the Bronx Council on the Arts workshop series. She will share her enthusiasm for the arts and her skills in creating 2D and 3D art in a master class-workshop on Thursday, November 8, 2018 entitled Eco Art Mural. The class will meet at 2:45pm in the OBCT Great Room 101in Kaplan Hall.

Gallery hours: Monday - Thursday, 8am to 9pm; Friday 8am to 6pm.
