Coronavirus Update for Students: March 24

March 24, 2020

SUNY Orange students

As we move closer to relaunching the Spring 2020 semester from a distance on Monday, March 30, the College will be sharing a variety of wide-ranging information intended to help you in your transition to a distance learning format.

As information is finalized this week, we will let you know. Please regularly monitor your SUNY Orange email account, the COVID-19 Resources portlet on your home tab in MySUNYOrange, our COVID-19 webpage, a new “Student Resources” page, the Student Grapevine and social media.

Student Access to Campus

As a rule, students are not permitted on our campuses until further notice. Do not come to campus. Any exceptions made will be for reasons officially communicated to identified and authorized students for specific purposes (for example, a Chromebook lending program described below), but in those cases strong social distancing guidelines will be enforced.

Student Chromebook Lending Program

If you lack a device that connects to the internet via wifi, and therefore have concerns about completing your Spring 2020 semester, SUNY Orange has initiated a Student Chromebook Lending program. Please note: the supply is limited. Complete and submit the application form no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 31. Pickup procedures will be shared with those students accepted into the program.

Answering questions

In this transition, students must stay connected with your instructors, who will be sharing information with you regarding individual classes. If you have broader questions related to your courses and academic experience , you can email Questionaboutmyclass@sunyorange.edu. Additionally, a series of FAQs are being developed. They will be shared on the College’s COVID-19 Student Resources webpage and we will let you know once they’ve been posted online.

Technical Support

The College’s Information Technology Services Help Desk phone number is (845) 341-4749. It is staffed in-person from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday through Friday, and remotely during all other hours.

Additional Information

You can visit our COVID-19 Student Resources for information on the following:

  • Low cost or free internet access at home
  • Emergency Resources for those in Need
  • Bookstore Support

No Decision yet on Commencement

Some students are already beginning to think about Commencement. The College’s first priority in response to COVID-19 is to get us back to some sort of academic schedule, as mandated by the Governor and SUNY. Once that is done, more in-depth Commencement discussions will begin. We also understand the urgency in informing students and families of that decision as soon as possible.
