2013 NISOD Presentation iTeach therefore iAm: The Appy Hour for Teaching & Learning Presentation Description: The role of a Center for Teaching and Learning becomes increasingly critical during fiscally difficult times when conference money is slashed. This collaborative session dissects the keys to CTL success! Content: During tough economic times faculty and staff professional development funds are usually the first to be cut from department budgets. Faculty members are expected to be as innovative and engaging, but with fewer opportunities beyond the campus community to learn new strategies to support teaching and learning. This session will uncover best practices in the development or revitalization of your campus Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to support the need for ongoing pedagogical innovation, particularly when faced with tighter budgets. Presenters will provide three key perspectives that support CTL success at various institutional levels, including the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the CTL Director, and the Faculty Member. The launch of a successful iPad program for faculty will also be a focus. Participants will be grouped into teams and provided with iPads for utilization during focused exercises to develop strategies and action plans for their campuses that identify faculty and staff champions, engage support from administration, ensure continued innovation through creative programming, and effectively communicate the CTL mission and goals. The session presenters are from SUNY Orange Community College. The Center for Teaching and Learning was created in 2006 and has been revitalized to support both campus locations.
