As you look over the descriptions in your Member mailing or on SUNY Orange website, consider all that you might learn from offerings about dreams, soap operas & baseball, the Civil War, or Colonial Williamsburg. Then again you may want to sample those back by popular demand: Quilting, Mah Jongg, Bridge, Scrapbooking, investing for seniors, Friday at the Movies. Whatever you choose, register NOW. �All aboooard!� Mark May 3 on your calendar; send in your travel-learn registration ASAP; join us for Encore�s spring travel- learn to Grand Central Station (GCS). We�ll bus to this famous landmark, take a private walking tour with noted guide Justin Ferate, and then lunch on our own at any one of the great eateries within or just outside the GCS complex. Open to members only, the trip is bound to appeal to our love of history, shopping and �The Big Apple.� Watch for the March special flyer. New member & faculty, Roberta Sanders is a former Williamsburg docent, and offers us �Colonial Williamsburg: An Insider�s View.� Dr. Judith Maidenbaum, NY psychiatrist and proprietor of �The Fat Lady Restaurant�, offers her expertise in �Dreams & Their Relation To Everyday Life.� Former NYS police officer Tim Zeszutek comes to us from SUNY Orange�s Department of Criminal Justice. He�ll teach �Seniors & Crime Prevention.� SUNY Orange Dental Hygiene prof, Meg Atwood, brings us instruction on Oral Health. And Gary Hudak, area craftsman, shares his love of ancient coins and their hidden history. Welcome all. Let �s Go Scrapbooking�again! Want to know what this craft is all about? How easy it is? How rewarding? Try one or both of our special repeat offerings: the course �Scrapbooking: What is It?� and the travel-learn opportunity , �Scrapbooking� How To Do It�. Scrapbooker-members will join Chris Godwin to show you what they�ve done with memorabilia, cards, and paper, tape and scissors at the one session course May 6. Then, on May 13 we�ll once again journey to Middletown�s A.C. Moore for a hands-on scrapbooking workshop. Each requires a separate reservation. You do not need to take both. Zeszutek SUNY Orange Sustainability Project Encore supports SUNY Orange �Going Green� These bins, located near the classroom buildings, will encourage environmental habits among us all. They will have engraved plaques stating, �Donated by Encore�, says Roz Smith, SUNY Orange Vice-President for Administration. Encore has become a partner in the college�s new sustainability initiative, Gert Mokotoff, Steering Committee president, has noted. Specifically, we�ll co-sponsor new heavy-duty recycling bin centers on the Middletown campus. Dr. Garnowski, Prof. Flo Hannes Mark Your May 2010 Calendar for� Special Health Innovations Event Two popular SUNY Orange/Encore contributors are hard at work on another college initiative, May 15, that Encore members will want to attend: the Assistive Technology Expo: Living Life To The Fullest�. Dr. Mike Garnowski, Associate Academic VP, and Flo Hannes, Occupational Therapy Assisting Chair, say approximately 80 vendors will display and demonstrate the latest products and services to help everyone from seniors to children with special needs. These will include low and high tech devices to aid in our getting around (powered wheelchairs, special lighting, doors), communicating (enlarged readers, new software), modifying ordinary equipment (toys, phones, computers). There will be interactive exhibits, special sessions, and possibly some free software. Watch for more details. Members Rate 2009 Learning Remember those course and trip evaluations you fill out? Well, here are examples of some of what they tell our Curriculum Committee semester.
