February 25, 2020

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – SUNY Orange has received a pair of Workforce Development Training grants from the State University of New York (SUNY) to provide Lean Six Sigma training to employees of Genpak and to deliver Business Communication training to employees at Walden Savings Bank.

SUNY has provided $15,000 for the three-day Genpak training and $4,817 for the seven-class program for Walden Savings Bank. Both trainings will be delivered as contract courses by the College’s Continuing and Professional Education (CAPE) office and are expected to begin in March.

Genpak expects 10 of its employees to participate in the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt program, which will help front-line staff and supervisors at the food packaging company improve staff effectiveness and efficiency, support strong team morale and accelerate employee development. Participants will work individually and in teams on specific process improvement problems, and will learn and utilize the phases of the DMAIC (Define Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) Process. Genpak is a member of the Council of Industry and additional seats in the course will be available for employees at other COI member companies.

It is anticipated that 20 employees from Walden Savings Bank will take part in the Business Communication to Increase Workplace Efficiency programming over three days in mid-March. The training will assist employees in enhancing their professional communication, and communicating more efficiently. Upon conclusion of the sessions, the bank hopes staff will be prepared to create and revise bank policies and procedures, which will lead to better service to customers and clients.
