LPN to RN Fact Sheet The Program at Orange County Community College requires the completion of 68 college credits to be granted an Associate in Applied Science degree. Those 68 credits can be divided into two groups. 34 core nursing credits and 34 required general education credits. Core Nursing Courses: Nursing I: Fundamentals NUR101 (7credits) Nursing II: Fundamentals NUR102 (10 credits) Nursing III: Care of the Growing Family NUR201 (7 credits) Nursing IV: Advanced Med/Surg NUR202 (9 credits) Nursing V: Preceptorship NUR203 (1 credit) General Education Courses: English I (ENG101) English II (ENG102) Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO111) (grade of C- or better) Anatomy & Physiology II (BIO112) (grade of C- or better) (Anatomy & Physiology I pre-requisite course of Introduction to Biology (BIO 110) is waived for LPN students. Microbiology for Health Professionals (MLT106) Elements of Chemistry and Physics (CHM120) Psychology of Adjustment (PSY100) Physical Education (PES000) 2 credits including Concepts of Wellness Electives: 6 credits of Free Electives 3 credits of Social Science (except psychology) A minimum of thirty-three (33) college credits (combination of core nursing and general education) must be completed at the SUNY Orange to be awarded a degree. Nursing Admission Process for Licensed Practical Nurses LPN�s may receive advance standing in the Associate in Applied Science Nursing Program if they are participating in the NYS LPN to RN articulation model. Orange County Community College grants Licensed Practical Nurses 14 credits toward completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing, based on successful completion of the LPN to RN Transition Course, Non-Credit, N3031 and seat availability. Credit for Nursing I and Nursing III will be granted based on the following criteria: Credit for Nursing I will be granted after successful completion of Nursing II with a grade of C (2.0) or higher. Credit for Nursing III will be granted after successful completion of Nursing IV and V with a grade of C (2.0) or higher. Minimum passing grade in all core nursing courses is 75. Students will be considered for acceptance into the Nursing Program based on the following admissions criteria. Priority in admissions to all health professions programs go to currently enrolled students who are legal Orange County residents. * Application to Orange County Community College and any other college transcripts on file in the Admissions Office. * PN Program Transcript (Official) on file in the registrar�s office. * Certificate of completion of the LPN to RN Transition Course offered through the continuing education department. Individuals eligible to take this course must hold, or be eligible to hold, a current LPN registration in the United States or its jurisdictions. Information regarding this course can be obtained through the continuing education department at 845-341-4380. * Completion of Freshman English I (ENG101) or equivalent. * Completion of Elementary Algebra (MAT 101) or equivalent. * Completion of Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO111) & Microbiology with a grade of 2.0 or higher (within 5 years of applying). * GPA: students must attain a minimum GPA of 2.5. * Completion of a Nursing Bridge Course (N3029). * Grade of 80% on Clinical Calculations Skill Examination Level 1.(This examination will be given during the Nursing Bridge Course) * Beginning in the Fall 2008, completion of TEAS admission assessment test Please be advised that certain general education requirements are co-requisites with nursing courses. A&P II must be taken with or prior to Nursing II. Elements of Chemistry and Physics & Psychology of Adjustment must be taken prior to Nursing IV. A valid Cardio-Respiratory Certification (CPR) is required while enrolled in nursing courses and must remain valid while enrolled in the program. A physical examination with required immunizations is to be on file in the College Health Office prior to enrollment in Nursing II (57102). Some clinical sites may require background checks and/or drug screening prior to clinical rotation at their facility. All LPN - RN Admissions Criteria must be completed in order for a student to be considered for acceptance into the program for the spring semester. Seating for advanced standing is limited. Registration for nursing courses is always dependent on a space available basis. If there are more interested eligible students than space availability, students will be selected on a priority ranking using the following criteria: 1)����� Orange County Residency. 2)����� Number of required, general education credits completed towards degree. A point system will be used as follows: (34 - 28 completed = 3 pts; 27 � 20 completed = 2 pts; 19 � 12 completed = 1 pt.; < 12 completed = 0 pts.) 3)����� Grade point average. A point system will be used as follows: GPA (4.0 � 3.75 = 5 pts; 3.74 -3.50 = 4 pts; 2.49 � 3.25 = 3 pts; 3.24 � 3.00 = 2 pts; 2.99 � 2.50 = 1 pt.)
