Free Suicide Prevention Training - Newburgh

(Q)uestion, (P)ersuade, (R)efer Suicide Prevention Training is designed to train people on how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide, how to ask the question, and refer someone to get help. The training can be completed in one hour. The SUNY Orange Wellness Center has trained over 800 SUNY Orange students to become QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeepers.
Trainings will be provided by Wellness Center Counselor, Maureen Flaherty, Licensed Mental Counselor/Certified QPR Instructor.

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Suicide is the most common psychiatric emergency and is the second leading cause of death among young people in the 24 â€" 34 age range. SUNY Orange joins more than 150 colleges and universities in providing QPR  Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training to students, faculty and staff.
