Transformation of the Woodbury Interchange at Route 17, Exit 131 and I87 - NYS Thruway.

Tuesday, 10 November, 2020
7:00 PM

It was not so long ago that people dreaded road trips, whether commuting or occasional traveling that necessitated going through the highway remodeling and construction at the junction of NYS Route 17 and Interstate 87, the NYS Thruway. Now, it is a breeze!

As Orange County’s personal and commercial vehicular traffic escalated due to more residents, schools, large shopping centers, and a greater effort by varied regional businesses and tourism to create destination centers of interest, the need was real to fix the congestion at this major road intersection. So, evolved the Transformation of the Woodbury Interchange at Route 17, Exit 131 and I87 - NYS Thruway.

scottThis major redesign and reconstruction will be explained by the experts who directed the project: Scott Geiger, PE and Brendan Fitzgerald, PE. Geiger, who recently retired, was the Director of the Office of Construction, NYSDOT. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech). Fitzgerald, who is Principal & Founding Partner of Hudson Valley Engineering Associates, was Resident Engineer/Construction Quality Control Engineer of the project. He received an AAS from SUNY Delhi and a BS in Civil & imageEnvironmental Engineering from Cornell University.
