Pushing the limits of traditional watercolor techniques to achieve very creative and unusual effects is the theme of the art master class to be given by artist Judith A. Hummer on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. This 5:30 to 8pm session via zoom is planned to accommodate both hands-on artists and relaxed observers.

Yupo is a high gloss, synthetic, tree-free, recyclable material. It is also a correctible surface, meaning that if after trying an idea the artist does not like the result, the paint can be wiped off. Consequently, no paper is wasted. Hummer believes, “Yupo is a perfect surface with which to play; a lot of times we forget to play and just have fun with our art. Yupo is the answer.”

However, Yupo is slippery. During the master class, Hummer will share some easy ways to handle this art surface. In addition, she likes to be adventurous by using common, household items to add texture. Participants should put “Yupo Supplies” in the subject line and email cultural@sunyorange.edu to request a list of suggested supplies for the class.

Judith Hummer has been the recipient of numerous awards from various international and regional juried exhibitions. She has also been juror or judge in many art shows. Presently, she is the vice-president of the Garden State Watercolor Society. Besides GSWS, she holds membership status in the North East Watercolor Society, the New Jersey Watercolor Society, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, the International Society of Experimental Artists, the American and National Watercolor Societies and the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Watercolor Societies.
