Hot Pink Getaway ~ a solo art exhibit of oils ~ is the opening show of 2022 in the Mindy Ross Gallery, Kaplan Hall, Newburgh.

Artist Andrea Pacione’s innovative style of sculpting, bending, and twisting paint to create doorways to the inner dimensions is an intriguing technique which draws the viewer to seek the details of the paintings as well as the broader overall scene.

Paintings in oils on large and medium-sized canvases comprise the selection of works that are a hybrid of abstract and recognizable shapes, many in bold colors set within gracefully unsettling dystopian landscapes, while others fascinate one’s eyes with the tiny repetitive strokes and dots of color reminding the viewer of pointillism. Indeed, this is an educational exhibit as it introduces fresh ideas in a lively manner of several art styles and techniques.

The exhibit began on January 19 and continues through March 7, 2022.
Capacity numbers in the gallery are limited because of social distancing, and masks are required regardless of vaccination status, all due to covid restrictions. Hours open to the general public are very limited, too. However, Open-to-the-public Dates and times for public viewing have been arranged and continue: on February 11 & 18: 6-8 and March 2: 5-7.

On February 18, classical guitarist Joy Zelada will provide music throughout. Come and enjoy both the art and music. Zelada will gladly explain the music and Pacione will describe what went into each piece.

Just as the artist, Andrea Pacione, graduated from SUNY Orange, so did Joy Zelada. She went on to SUNY New Paltz, and he received his degrees from Hunter College. They are both longtime residents of Newburgh. Andrea Pacione teaches several art courses at SUNY Orange and recently opened a studio-gallery in Newburgh. Zelada teaches in the Newburgh school system and has private students.

Mindy Ross Gallery is at the eastern end of Kaplan Hall, SUNY Orange and is located at 73 First Street, Newburgh.
