Immersive Character Improv and Professional Stage Combat
Monday, 11 April, 2022
All Day
The theatre production created for Spring 2022 is an outdoor “Medieval Romp.” It will include Comedy, Court, Drama, Music, and Fighting in the fashion of a Renaissance festival.
To complement the immense efforts of teaching specific theatre skills for this complex type of production, Cultural Affairs has arranged two master classes with two SUNY Orange Alums who were students under the tutelage of David Cohen several years ago. The first master class took place on March 30. It was very successful and beneficial to the students and Apprentice Players.
Upcoming on Monday, April 11, three sessions are planned, one in Immersive Character Improv and two in combat theatre skills. In the afternoon and evening, dashing actor Joe DiNozzi will share his techniques in Professional Stage Combat ~ Medieval and Renaissance Weapons for Theater and Film.
Joe DiNozzi has a long resume itemizing the varied types of theatre he has embraced with much success in the areas of live theatre, film, voice, and training workshops. He will demonstrate those skills during the Monday sessions. Joe DiNozzi is an excellent example of how a person can make a living in theatre.
He holds a BFA in Drama from SUNY Purchase.
Of particular interest regarding the spring production is stage combat which is a skill he first learned from David Cohen and which he has broadened while using in Renaissance Festivals. He will demonstrate Broadsword, Pistols, Unarmed Combat and their staging.
These sessions are designed specifically and exclusively for the theatre students and Apprentice Players.
