'Premiere Performance' - LUNA: The Doug Beavers Latin Jazz Octet

Saturday, October 1 is the exact center of Hispanic Heritage Month. So, what better way to celebrate than with Latin Jazz!

Come at 7:30pm to the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall, SUNY Orange, for the premiere concert of the exciting music of LUNA: The Doug Beavers Latin Jazz Octet. In addition to the superb NYC jazz musicians of the octet is Spanish Harlem Orchestra vocalist/flutist Jeremy Bosch who joins them for this concert.

The music Luna incorporates salsa, R&B, Afro-Caribbean with heavy-horn soul, to present a scintillating, powerful program that is sure to keep concert-goers movin’ in their seats.

Hailed by Latin Jazz Network as “a master of transformative artistry” -- band director/composer/arranger/trombonist Doug Beavers also has served as the producer of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra for which he won a GRAMMY® in 2019. Along with Beavers, the octet players are Max Seigel, bass trombonist; Ivan Renta, tenor saxophonist; Manuel “Maneco” Ruiz, trumpeter; Jerry Madera, bassist; Luisito Quintero, percussionist; Camilo Molina, drummer; and Gabriel Chakarji, pianist.

Joy is ever-present in Latin Jazz. Rhythms, and beautiful, evocative sounds engender interaction between musicians and their audience. And these nine, top-notch musicians will give these music-lovers a night to remember.

An always evolving genre of music, the compositions of Luna were awarded a 2021 Chamber Music America “New Jazz Works” Commission, thereby funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Included in the concert selections are pieces from Sol, an uplifting, lively set of tunes by Beavers that will set attendees humming after the concert.

General admission is $5 cash or check [NO credit cards]; All students are admitted free. Tickets are available only at the Box Office starting at 6:15 pm the evening of the performance.
