Concerned about MPV (aka Monkeypox)?

Get vaccinated! It’s the best way to prevent infection.

The Wellness Center has partnered with the Orange County Department of Health for two vaccine clinics on Wednesday, November 2nd and Wednesday, November 30th in the Shepard Student Center, lower level.

About MPV:

MPV (Monkeypox) is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus is part of the same family of viruses as variola virus, the virus that causes smallpox. Monkeypox symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms, but milder, and monkeypox is rarely fatal.

CDC recommends vaccination for people who have been exposed to monkeypox and people who may be more likely to get monkeypox, including:

• People who have been identified by public health officials as a contact of someone with monkeypox
• People who know one of their sexual partners in the past 2 weeks has been diagnosed with monkeypox
• People who had multiple sexual partners in the past 2 weeks in an area with known monkeypox

Details:

• The clinic is free and open to the public
• Appointments will be available every 10 minutes from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m., and from 1:15pm to 4:45 p.m. on both days
• Walk-ins are welcome
• Anyone can attend, even if you are not an Orange County resident or a student or employee of SUNY Orange
• The vaccine provided will be the Jynneos vaccine

Important considerations:

• The Jynneos vaccine consists of two doses.
• The clinics will have both the first and the second doses available.
• Because of the unknown risk of myocarditis after Jynneos, it’s recommended to wait 4 weeks in between receiving a Jynneos vaccine & a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine. If you have received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 4 weeks, we will not offer a Jynneos vaccine.
