Vaping: What You Need to Know - Newburgh

Tuesday, 28 February, 2023
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Concerned about vaping? You're not alone. Vaping products are the most commonly used tobacco products among American youth.

To answer your questions, a representative from ADAC (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County) will be available to speak to students, faculty and staff about the pros and cons of vaping and e-cigarettes on Tuesday, February 28th in the Kaplan Hall Lobby, Newburgh from 10 am to 2 pm.

E-cigarettes are known by many different names:

  • e-cigs
  • e-hookahs
  • mods
  • vape pens
  • vapes
  • tank systems
  • electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS)

According to the Centers for Disease Control:

  • In the United States, youth are more likely than adults to use e-cigarettes.
  • In 2017, 2.8% of U.S. adults were current e-cigarette users.
    • In 2018, more than 3.6 million U.S. middle and high school students used e-cigarettes in the past 30 days, including: 4.9% middle school students and 20.8% high school students.
    • Among current e-cigarette users aged 45 years and older in 2015, most were either current or former regular cigarette smokers, and 1.3% had never been cigarette smokers.
      •  In contrast, among current e-cigarette users aged 18"24 years, 40.0% had never been regular cigarette smokers.
      • E-cigarettes are not safe for youth, young adults, pregnant women, or adults who do not currently use tobacco products. (CDC.gov)

Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which has known health effects.

  • It's highly addictive,
  • toxic to developing fetuses,
  • can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s,
  • is a health danger for pregnant women and their developing babies. (CDC.gov)

Please stop by the info table to speak with an expert about the dangers of e-cigarettes and vaping.
