Dawn Wilkin, Director of Prevention Services for Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster, and
NYS OASAS Credentialed Prevention Specialist with 23 years in the prevention field will present
Prevention Strategies to Reduce Opioid or Fentanyl Overdose.
This presentation will examine treatment and intervention strategies to prevent opioid or Fentanyl
overdose. It will also include the types of opioids and Fentanyl, reviewing the risks and symptoms of
use and addiction. It will inform students about addiction treatment and substance use community
resources.
Students will learn the following:
- The prevalence of opioid overdose in New York and Orange County.
- Common risks for opioid or Fentanyl addiction and overdose.
- Misuse and abuse of prescription opioids for relieving pain.
- Drug overdose deaths in New York and Orange County are connected to the illegal use of
synthetic opioids and fentanyl.
- Fentanyl and opioid overdose treatment and the use of Narcan.
- Use of Fentanyl strips
- Risks of cannabis laced with fentanyl and other opioids.
A collaboration of the Behavioral Sciences Department, Catholic Charities,
and the Wellness Center
