Fentanyl Awareness Forum
Friday, 29 September, 2023
8:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Join us at the Fentanyl Awareness Forum, featuring opening remarks from District Attorney David Hoovler and Commissioner Darcie Miller of OCDMH. The event includes presentations by Dr. Joshua Lynch, DO, EMT-P, FACEP, the Chief Medical Officer at NY Matters, and Dr. Matisyahu Shulman, a Clinician-Scientist at Columbia University. There will also be a panel discussion.
Drugs containing fentanyl, even in very small amounts, substantially increase the risk of overdose and death. Naloxone is an FDA-approved medication that works to reverse an opioid overdose, including fentanyl overdose. The CDC has reported that fentanyl causes more deaths of Americans under 50 than any other cause, including heart disease, cancer, and accidents. Overdose deaths related to synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, have tripled among teenagers in the past two years. Shockingly, 73% of teenagers are unaware that fake prescription pills containing fentanyl exist.
