Sun, Moon, and Totality: The 2024 Eclipse

imageAstronomer Irene Pease who has presented four previous times at SUNY Orange…on the stars and astronomy in light polluted areas...at in-person events as well as zoom during the covid shutdown.

However, on Thursday March 7, 2024, at 7pm in the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering (RCSE), Gerry Forum 010, she will give a talk on safe-guarding preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse (April 8):

Sun, Moon, and Totality: The 2024 Eclipse

Here are some of the topics that she’ll cover during the presentation

  • some basics of eclipses, and contrasting solar and lunar eclipses
  • science that we can and have done with them
  • tips for where and how to enjoy the 2024 eclipse (safely!)

Come to this sure-to-be informative talk and an event which celebrates Women’s History Month.

Then, on April 8th, come to the Alumni Green in the center of the Middletown campus of SUNY Orange and Larkin Plaza, Newburgh campus and experience the solar eclipse.

While living in Brooklyn, Pease was a member of the board of directors for the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York City and founder and CEO of Friendly Neighborhood Astronomer LLC.  She presently is an Associate of the Hayden Planetarium and lives in Sullivan County where light pollution is at a minimum.

RCSE is located at 10 East Conkling Avenue, Middletown. Free Parking is available in the garage at 3 East Conkling Avenue or in the lot at 24 Grandview Avenue. Questions may be directed to Cultural Affairs at  cultural@sunyorange.edu
