The Art of Foolery: Celebrating Failure through Playful Physicality

Drew Richardson, the Dramatic Fool, is coming on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, to work with SUNY Orange Theatre students and the Apprentice Players during three sessions at 1- 2:15 pm; 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm; 7 - 9:30pm. He will present The Art of Foolery: Celebrating Failure through Playful Physicality onstage in the William and Helen Richards Theatre in Orange Hall.
So, get ready for some serious clowning around!
Besides his role as an actor/fool, he is a writer/coach and also teaches and directs physical theatre, a talent he has developed over the years having studied with Jacques Lecoq in Paris. As a physical acting coach, he has taught, directed, devised, and consulted for companies and schools including 500 Clown, Strawdog Theatre, Quest Wings Company, The (Very) Physical Comedy Institute, and Ko Festival.
He is also known for his silent films and was the first person in the 21st century to have new short silent films shown in major motion picture theaters. Additionally,
he played with Squonk Opera in the Broadway touring production of Bigsmorgasbordwunderwerk.
A certified Essential Somatics Exercise Coach, he also received a teacher’s certificate from the Michael Chekhov
Association (MICHA). He holds a BFA in Theatre from Ohio University and an MFA in Theatre Performance Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University. Most recently he was a visiting professor at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA and Adams State University in Alamosa, CO.
