Photography and Poetry ~ visual and verse ~

8:00 AM
A summer show entitled Photography and Poetry ~ visual and verse ~ is on view July 17 through September 13, 2024 in Orange Hall Gallery. With the theme of summer and spring, works reflect where we are in the calendar and evoke a feeling of openness and free thought. Twenty-one photographers and eighteen poets, six of whom have contributed both, have provided photographs and poems which offer visitors the opportunity of viewing a wide variety of images from landscapes to portraits to genre scenes and reading words to interpret both their meaning and rhythm. Some poems have been designed specifically to complement the visuals.
Please read on for the lists of the participating photographers and poets.
The Reception is scheduled on Friday, July 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm with music played by pianist Geoff Hamburg. Come and enjoy the ambience created by the music and meet the artists. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Sometimes photography is considered a secondary art. That is not the case. Photographers are creative in where they take shots which, in fact, may take hours of patience for the right moment. Many photographers “create the opportunity.” Others take action shots. With cameras that require film plus complex digital cameras, and even cellphones, when taken by experienced photographers who consider their work as art, on-the-spot as well as planned or abstract pieces offer viewers on-site glimpses of these artists’ conceptualizations.
Poetry is art in words: imaginative, descriptive language in rhythmic stanzas or free form that express deep, inner thoughts as well as light-hearted voices. These poems are within the realm of a single reading that take a relatively short time. Poets are wordsmiths who choose their words efficiently and carefully to grab readers and continue them reading to the end. Through poetry, they provide avenues of thought in short lines of smartly chosen words. Displaying poems throughout the exhibit offers poets a wider audience and viewers a pause from the many visuals.
Come to Orange Hall Gallery and experience the arts of photography and poetry. Gallery hours in July are 8am to 7pm Monday through Thursday and in August and September, 8am to 8pm Monday through Thursday and 8am to 5pm on Friday.
Orange Hall is located at SUNY Orange at the corner of Wawayanda and Grandview Avenues at GPS 24 Grandview Ave, Middletown.
