Jose Olivarez Poety, Reading and Master Class
Monday, 14 April, 2025
1:30 PM - 2:45 PM
On Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15, award-winning and highly regarded poet Jose Olivarez is coming to the SUNY Orange Middletown campus to present two programs for students and the college community. All are welcome.
Monday’s session will be held in the Gilman Center, Library Room 130 from 1:30pm to 2:45 pm. During that time, Jose Olivarez will read a few of his poems, “poems written to be shared and to start conversations,” as he explains. Olivarez plans on creating an open, safe space in which a collaborative and conversational afternoon visit can take place for students and the college community in which to participate in interactive discussion.
Poetry is his medium, his voice. Being the son of Mexican immigrants, Olivarez shows his sensitivity to this and its related subjects -- challenges and fears -- through his poems.
Come and listen to Jose Olivarez and share among your colleagues and friends and be inspired. Jose Olivarez is warm and welcoming and very engaging. So, come to one or both days’ sessions.
Jose Olivarez is an award-winning author, poet, and spoken word artist. In addition to his many awards, he co-hosts the poetry podcast, The Poetry Gods. He is also a graduate of Harvard University.
