Gel Transferring Photographic Images - a workshop-master class by Denise Shelby Isseks
Tuesday, 10 June, 2025
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Now on view in the Mindy Ross Gallery on the Newburgh campus of SUNY Orange is Nothing Negative ~ Digital Photography, a solo exhibitby Denise Shelby Isseks. The variety of techniques as well as the design of many of the photographs show an experimental spirit by the photographer, plus her knowledge of the medium.
Denise Shelby Isseks has been experimenting with photography since she was twelve years old when she received her first camera as a gift for her birthday. While growing up in a multi-cultural home, she was regularly exposed to new ideas and methods. Throughout her life, she has been open to trying different ways of expression. Her business card states, “works in visual and edible art.” As a caterer, she is always trying out or expanding upon new recipes. In art, especially in photography, she anticipates and is ready for a better angle or technique.
Consequently, when she was introduced to gel transfers, she “dove into” this interesting way of using photography creatively both in small and large works. Examples of these sizes are in the show. She will share her knowledge and enthusiasm of this process during Gel Transferring Photographic Images, a workshop-master class.
The session, which is free and open to the public, has been scheduled on Tuesday, June 10 from 6 to 8pm in the Mindy Ross Gallery, Kaplan Hall. Materials will be provided. However, participants who would like to work on a favorite photo, should bring that as a 6” X 6” laser print with the image flipped horizontally (mirror image). This workshop-master class is limited to 16 participants. On-looker-attendees are welcome, too.
Please email cultural@sunyorange.edu to register or to ask questions. This event is a presentation of Cultural Affairs. Free parking is available in the college garage in Kaplan Hall at 73 First St, Newburgh.
