Summer Lecture Series I: Wildlife of the Galapagos Islands
Monday, 2 June, 2025
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
The calendar may still be spring, but Summer Semesters have already started at SUNY Orange. Dr. Walter Jahn, Professor of Biology, has designed two mini-series of lectures.
Summer Lecture Series I: The Biodiversity of the Americas is scheduled entirely in June with four lectures on consecutive Mondays and finishing with a musical evening in a relaxed atmosphere and focusing on environmental and wildlife themes. This program series is free and open to the public.
To kick off this mini-series, the lecture on Monday, June 2 gives attendees an overview of the Wildlife of the Galapagos Islands and its role in our understanding of the Origin of Species.
The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of islands in the Eastern Pacific, located near the equator 560 miles west of Ecuador its governing country. Because of its distance from mainland South America and the winds and currents around them, the Galapagos are so isolated that many of its plant and animal species are found nowhere else in the world.
The timeframe of the lectures is 5:30 to 6:30pm.
The venue is the Rowley Center for Science and Engineering (RCSE) room 110. RCSE is located at GPS: 10 East Conkling Avenue, Middletown. Free parking is available on- street and in college lots.
Also, the lectures are available live via zoom. Link: https://sunyorange.zoom.us/j/98282281351
