Multi-talented artist, Heidi Lanino, who draws, paints, sculpts, and makes one-of-a-kind ceramics, will conduct a master class entitled Painting and Markmaking on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 starting at 4pm. The class is free and open to the public.

The class is based on color, but early spring only has the beginnings of nature’s array of color. However, the Devitt Greenhouse on the campus of SUNY Orange has color and wildly different shapes of blossoms and leaves in the various ordinary and exotic plants living there. Consequently, this master class will take place in two places.

Students and community attendees should meet at Orange Hall Gallery by 4pm and then, as a group, move on to the greenhouse where its supervisor, Professor James Scharfenberger, will greet them and give an overview of the “inhabitants” of this glass house. Latecomers are welcome. While walking throughout the greenhouse attendees will sketch and photograph what interests them.

Then, the group will go back to Orange Hall Gallery where artist Heidi Lanino will give background on the use of color and gestural brushstrokes as inspired by David Hockney, Joan Mitchell, and Vincent Van Gogh. Finally, using watercolors and oil pastels and various brushes and paper, participants will create their own paintings. All art implements necessary for participating will be provided, although participants can bring their own materials as well.Lower Wisner Road by Heidi Lanino

Heidi Lanino enjoys teaching all ages from children to adults. She holds a BFA with honors from Pratt Institute, the college which she attended on a full-tuition merit scholarship. Her vibrant enthusiasm coupled with her knowledge makes her an engaging educator who explains the creative process, shares skills, and brings people to the point of being adventurous.
