Commencement to be Held May 18
March 1, 2023MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – Following the success of its revamped Commencement programming last year, SUNY Orange will once again host three smaller graduation ceremonies this year when the College convenes for its 73rd Commencement on Thursday, May 18.
Graduates from the Health Professions programs will receive their degrees during a 9:30 a.m. ceremony on the Alumni Green of the College’s Middletown campus, while graduates from the BMST (Business, Math, Science and Technology) programs will participate in a 2 p.m. event and those graduates from the Liberal Arts programs will be invited to a 5 p.m. session.
The three events will be held outdoors, rain or shine, under a large tent on the Alumni Green. Graduates will be expected to attend the ceremony based upon the academic division in which their program resides. Each graduate will be entitled to a maximum of two tickets for guests as seating will be limited. All three ceremonies will be streamed live on the College website (www.sunyorange.edu).
“Last year, we moved to three smaller ceremonies in part as a precaution against spreading COVID-19,” said Dr. Kristine Young, SUNY Orange president. “But we found that both graduates and guests enjoyed the shorter, more intimate and more personal ceremonies. Each had its own distinct vibe but at the same time held true to our traditions and appropriately celebrated the achievements of our graduates.
“I want to thank Gerianne Brusati (vice president for student services) and her entire Student Services team for devising and executing a successful revamp to our program last year and for fine-tuning our approach this year based upon some of the feedback we received a year ago that will make our Commencement even better in 2023.”
