2023 Rad Tech Grads Post 100 Percent Rate on Board Exam
November 28, 2023MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – All 10 of the 2023 SUNY Orange Radiologic Technology program graduates passed their American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) national board exam on their first attempt.
This year’s 100 percent pass rate on the first attempt marks the second time in the past five exam cycles that every SUNY Orange Rad Tech graduate passed on the first try (all 15 grads were successful in 2019). Over the past six years, the program has maintained an exceptionally high national board first-time pass rate of 92.77 percent. The most recent national averages published by AART, from 2018 through 2022 and not inclusive of 2023, show the program’s first-time pass rate average at 91.78 percent, outpacing the national average of 86.75 percent during that same five-year period.
Data gathered from post-graduate surveys shows that the College’s radiologic technology program enjoys exceptional job placement rates (100 percent from 2019 – 2022), graduate satisfaction (100 percent from 2018 – 2022) and a five-year average employer satisfaction rate of 100 percent. The College established its radiologic technology program in 1989.
When asked as part of a graduation survey, “Overall, do you feel that your education in the Radiography Program prepared you to work as an effective member in the Radiography Department and as part of the health care team,” the response has remained at 100 percent for the past five years.
“Our students develop a constant recall of information learned in the program which is ultimately on the national boards in part because they apply this information with every patient in the clinical setting,” said Department Chair and Professor Nicole Rushing. “We also schedule clinical tests every clinical practicum, building on their knowledge from Clinical 1-5.
“There is a high demand for radiology technologists, and it is a rewarding career. The amount of work, practice and time commitment needed to be successful is probably more than people realize.”
Accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), admission to the SUNY Orange Radiologic Technology program is highly competitive and attracts many more applicants than seats. The application deadline is Feb. 1. Students are accepted and start their academic sequence in the Fall semester. Courses are offered during the daytime on the Middletown campus.
