Cassie Deerr Earns PTK Academic All-State Honors

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – SUNY Orange student Cassie Deerr is among those being celebrated
Tuesday, April 29 during the Phi Theta Kappa All-New York Academic Awards in Albany,
N.Y.
Presented by PTK, the national honor society for students at two-year colleges, the
awards highlight the outstanding academic achievements by SUNY and CUNY students from
throughout the state.
Deerr, a Monroe-Woodbury High School graduate and standout student at SUNY Orange,
has been honored with the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa Award. Deerr is recognized for
her exceptional leadership, commitment to community, and academic achievement.
The recent subject of a Student Spotlight Story at SUNY Orange, Deerr was highlighted
for founding the College’s Mi Gente! Club, a student club that has become a vibrant
space for cultural celebration and student connection. Her efforts to build community
extended across campus, where she has served as vice president of both the Phi Theta
Kappa honor society and the Student Senate, as well as the vice president of the Student
Senate, secretary for the International Club, a member of the Advancing Success in
Associate Pathways (ASAP) program and Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program
(CSTEP).
In addition to her campus involvement, Deerr represents SUNY Orange at the state level
as director of student health for the SUNY Student Assembly. A future psychiatrist,
she plans to continue her education in pre-med after graduating in May.
