Dental Hygiene Program Receives State-of-the-Art Intraoral Scanner
October 27, 2025
Thanks to the generosity of Masci, Hale and Wilson Dental Associates, the SUNY Orange Dental Hygiene Department has received a DEXIS IS 3800W wireless intraoral scanner, valued at approximately $15,000.
The donation was initiated by Dr. Amanda Wilson, a long-time advocate for the program who has been a guest lecturer in the department’s Dental Radiology course for the past five years. Dr. Wilson contacted the department directly to express the office’s interest in making the donation.
The DEXIS IS 3800W creates highly accurate 3D digital impressions of a patient’s mouth, replacing traditional impression methods that rely on putty trays. The advanced technology will help students gain experience with the same digital tools used in modern dental practices.
By integrating the scanner into the curriculum, students will strengthen their skills in patient education and engagement, using digital models to illustrate oral health conditions, track progress between visits and promote a better understanding of preventive care.
“I am so excited about the opportunity this donation gives to our students,” said Niccole Card, RDH, MS, department chair, professor and clinical coordinator at SUNY Orange. “It enhances hands-on learning and prepares them for success in contemporary dental hygiene practice.”
