SUNY Orange Awards 62 Microcredentials

July 15, 2026

SUNY Orange recently recognized 62 students who completed training programs in Direct Support Professional (DSP) and IT Support Technology, earning career-focused certificates that prepare graduates for in-demand professions while creating pathways to continued education.

The Direct Support Professional program consists of three stackable credential levels that prepare individuals to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, aging-related needs and other disabilities in community settings. As students progress through the program, they develop skills in person-centered care, communication, advocacy, community inclusion and leadership.

The IT Support Technology program prepares students for entry-level careers in information technology by developing foundational skills in computer hardware and software, networking, troubleshooting, cybersecurity fundamentals and customer service. Graduates are prepared for help desk and IT support roles.

Credits earned through both programs can be applied toward related SUNY Orange degrees.

These competency-based programs provide focused, workforce-ready training that can be completed in less time than a traditional degree while helping meet the needs of regional employers.

Of the 62 students recognized, 42 completed the Direct Support Professional program and 20 completed the IT Support Technology program.

For more information about the IT Support Technology program, contact Bruce Roman, Chair of the Computer Science and Technology Department, at bruce.roman@sunyorange.edu or (845) 341-4523.
