Q: When is Commencement and what time does it start?

A: Commencement is Thursday, May 23, 2019 and begins promptly at 5:00 p.m. on the College Alumni Green at our Middletown campus.

Q: What happens if it rains?

A: If it rains the ceremony will be held in the Physical Education Building at our Middletown Campus.

Q: How many people can I invite to the ceremony?

A: If the ceremony is held indoors, you are entitled to 2 tickets for your guests. If you have more than 2 guests who wish to attend, the ceremony will be live streamed on the 1st floor of the Shepard Student Center and in the Orange Hall Theater. If the ceremony is outdoors, we do not collect tickets, but we ask that you are mindful of the number of guests you invite since seating is limited. Both venues are accessible. Security will have golf carts to transport guests who may have difficulty walking. There are designated accessible parking spaces.

Q: How do I apply for graduation and how much does it cost?

A: Go the Registrar's webpage and complete the graduation application and return it, along with a $55 fee, to Student Services Central at either the Middletown or Newburgh campuses. The $55 also includes your cap and gown and tickets.

Q: Who do I tell if I plan to walk in the ceremony?

A: Go to the Commencement webpage and complete the Electronic Response Card by the deadline of May 6th. This will ensure that you will be participating in the ceremony and will also let us know to include you in the line-up.

Q: Where and when do I pick up my cap and gown?

A: You must pre-order your cap and gown online no later than April 10th. Go to: https://collegegrad.herffjones.com/ to place your online cap and gown order. No payment is required. Caps and Gowns will be distributed to graduates on the 1st floor of the Shepard Center following the mandatory Commencement Rehearsal.

Q: What is a gold honor cord?

Graduates who have a final cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.2 or higher are eligible to wear a gold honor cord on their gown. Eligible graduates can purchase the gold honor cords in the Bookstore for $15. Graduates will be notified of their eligibility.

Q: Can I decorate my cap?

A: Yes, you may decorate your cap but please keep the decorations subtle so as not to obstruct anyone's vision. Also, abstain from any decorations that protrude from your cap that could harm someone.

Q: Where do I line up for the ceremony?

A: If the ceremony is held outdoors on the Alumni Green, graduates will line up along the walkway toward Horton Hall on the edge of the Green. If we are indoors in the Physical Education Building, graduates will line up along the long corridor which begins at the end of the hallway as you enter the gym.

Q: When do I get my diploma?

A: Whether or not you walk in the ceremony, all diplomas for May, 2019 graduates are mailed 4-6 weeks after the Commencement Ceremony. Only diploma covers will be presented to the graduates at the ceremony. August, 2019 candidates for graduation who were eligible to walk, will receive their diplomas in September, once they have completed all of their requirements.

Q: I am a Veteran. Are they any special designations for those who serve/d in the military?

A: Yes. Veteran graduates can wear a stole with their gown designating their branch of the military. Contact the Center for Student Involvement at 845 341-4015, no later than March 29, 2019 to request a stole.
