The Board of Activities offers several Week of Welcome (WoW) events to honor the SUNY Orange 75th Anniversary!

Monday, August 26, on the Middletown Alumni Green from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. T-Shirt Giveaway commemorating SUNY Orange’s 75th Anniversary and the first day of classes.

Tuesday, August 27, in the Newburgh Kaplan Grand Street Lobby from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. T-Shirt Giveaway commemorating SUNY Orange’s 75th Anniversary and the first day of classes.

Wednesday, August 28, enjoy an ice cream sundae in honor of SUNY Orange’s 75th Anniversary from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Middletown Alumni Green and the Newburgh Kaplan Grand Street Lobby.

Thursday, August 29, spin the prize wheel in honor of the College’s 75th, and win a prize! Available 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the Middletown Alumni Green and Newburgh Kaplan Grand Street Lobby AND from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Rowley Lobby on the Middletown Campus and Newburgh Kaplan Grand Street Lobby.

As we kick off the Fall 2024 Semester on August 26, SUNY Orange Association and Fuel 4 Life is excited to share the Fall 2024- Food Service Menus and Specials for the Middletown and Newburgh Cafes.

The students, staff, and faculty favorites are back on the menu! What's new? Daily Specials on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays will be offered alongside the daily favorites.

The College has received the sad news that former colleague, professor Larry O’Brien, passed away on Aug. 20. Larry taught geology courses in the Science, Engineering and Architecture Department at SUNY Orange for 43 years, from his hiring in 1973 until his retirement in May 2016.

He retired with the rank of professor and was granted professor emeritus status.

A funeral service and Mass will be held on Friday Aug. 23 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Services will be handled by Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. in Middletown.

In 2019, SUNY Orange dedicated the Larry O’Brien Geological Collection Room (adjacent to RCSE 219), affectionately known as “The Rock Room.” Larry was an avid world traveler and he often collected samples on his trips. Through 2019, he had visited all 50 states, 11 of the 13 Canadian provinces, 76 foreign countries and 50 of the 62 United States national parks. When he retired, he donated to the College his mineral and rock collection, which numbed nearly 2,000 individual samples including rocks, minerals, fossils and volcanics. Some of the samples are considered rare, and the collection is supported by more than 2,000 geological and topographic maps and other documents he collected over the years.
