CRRSAA / HEERF II

The Plan for distribution of the student portion of the HEERF II funds was prepared jointly by our Financial Aid and Student Accounts offices under the guidance of the VPSS, Gerianne Brusati and the Comptroller, Agnes Wagner, all of whom participated in the SUNY webinar which presented the SUNY awarding methodology.

The grant amount awarded to SUNY Orange is $1,702,698. Following SUNY methodology, this amount was to be disbursed to Spring 2021 students based on their EFC and credit registration (full time = 12 credits or higher; part-time = less than 12 credits) for the semester. The spreadsheet (attached) provides the breakdown of award and recipient totals. An estimated total of 1,470 students are eligible for awards. Please note that the amount of 2.89% or $49,208. will be held in reserve to assist any new students who enroll in the College during Summer 2021 or Fall 2021 using the same methodology.

Students granted awards will be notified by email to their SUNY Orange account. This notification will stipulate that the funds are made available through CRRSAA Act as emergency grants to cover expenses related to any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to the coronavirus. Eligible expenses --tuition, food, housing, health and mental health care or childcare – will be noted. We will clearly indicate that the funds are not a loan, do not need to be repaid, nor will they affect financial aid for AY '21-22. Students will be asked to notify the Office of Financial Aid if they do not have expenses that meet or exceed their grant amount.

In addition, students will be able to affirmatively “opt in” to apply these emergency grants (in full or in part) to the payment of their outstanding balance for Spring 2021 or charges posted prior to December 27, 2020. A mach form accompanying the notice of the grant award will be used for this purpose. Students will be asked to respond within 10 days and to clearly indicate the dollar amount they wish to apply to their account.

HEERF II Student Aid funds will be disbursed to students by electronic fund transfer (BankMobile) or by check to the student’s home address.

Documentation of the final email communication, “opt in” mach form and disbursement methodology together with a roster of students, award amounts and disbursement type (BankMobile, check) will be maintained in the Office of the Comptroller for audit purposes.
