College Announces Spring Certification Courses

December 18, 2023

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – To support Hudson Valley residents seeking to start or enhance their careers, SUNY Orange will be offering certification and credentialing courses this Spring in such areas as healthcare, manufacturing, commercial driving and fiber optics.

Designed to efficiently train or upskill students for rewarding careers with sustainable salaries in a competitive work market, SUNY Orange’s courses are affordable, flexible, and convenient programs that allow students to access quality training that fits their needs and schedule. All courses lead to a credential or certification, and financial aid may be available for those who qualify.

Courses will be available in: Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, Certified Pharmacy Technician, Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), CDL Training: Class A & B Truck Driver, Manufacturing Machine Operator (HAAS), Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC-T), Certified Fiber Optic Technician and Family Development Credential Program.

Additionally, the College will continue to offer its sought-after High School Equivalency (GED) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

Most of the courses begin in March and range from four to 15 weeks in length. The fiber optic course is an intensive one-week (six days) program while CASAC is 12 months in length. Students generally need to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent in order to enroll. Some courses have additional requirements, including a valid New York State driver’s license for those programs that include a driving component (EMT and CDL).

“As a community leader, SUNY Orange is committed to providing essential educational opportunities that empower businesses and residents to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our region,” said Dr. Jean Leandre, SUNY Orange’s vice president for workforce, strategy and innovation. “Our goal is to offer short courses that are cost-effective, but more importantly lead to self-sustaining wages so students can progress toward brighter, more fulfilling careers, regardless of the career or sector they pursue.”
