Travel-Learn Trips
In addition to our regular courses, Encore offers Travel-Learn opportunities. These are one day trips, sometimes with a pre-trip or on-the-bus lecture. They are most often scheduled during the early part of the college's Fall and the later part of its Spring semesters. They feature unique opportunities to visit actual sites and learn first-hand. Occasionally they are also offered during the January intersession and the summer months. All trips are open to MEMBERS ONLY.
Fall 2024 Encore Trip: Mills Mansion (Staatsburgh, NY)

The Staatsburgh State Historic Site is the elegant country home of Ogden Mills his wife Ruth Livingston Mills. Over looking the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains, Staatsburgh is an elegant example of the beautiful homes-built America’s financial and industrial leaders during the Guiled Age (the American Renaissance). Originally build in 1832 and greatly expanded in the 1890’s, the mansion at Staatsburgh is referred locally as Mills Mansion. The historic rooms are filled with the family’s original furniture, art, and decretive arts, along with carefully conserved and restored items.
- WE WILL BE DOING QUITE A BIT OF WALKING, SO PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATELY AND WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES!
- The first levels are easily accessible but there is a large staircase with a landing that leads to the three bedrooms upstairs should you choose to view them.
