The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence honors State University of New York students who have best demonstrated and been recognized for their integration of academic excellence with other aspects of their lives, which may include leadership, campus involvement, athletics, career achievement, community service or creative and performing arts:

Alford Biology Scholarship - Brandon F. Rodriguez
Awarded annually to a graduating student, who exhibits the qualities of a successful
scientist. Award selected by the Biology Department faculty.
Amy Bull Crist Scholarship - Antinea Sanchez
Awarded annually to graduating and transferring student(s) in honor of the late Mrs.
Crist, an original trustee of the college and former president of the Orange County
Community College Association.
Apprentice Players Theatre Arts Scholarship - Nicholas Kanan
Awarded to a graduating Theatre Arts student with a 2.5 GPA and demonstrable financial
need. Interview with and recommendation of the Theatre faculty is required.
Audrey A. Reilly Memorial Music Scholarship - Kevin M. Hyppolite
Established through the generosity of the late Professor Emeritus Charles J. Reilly
in memory of his wife, Audrey. Awarded to a Music student for further studies.
Business Club Scholarship - Leevya Rivera
Awarded to a full- or part-time graduating student of the Business Department, continuing
her/his education at an institution of higher learning. Award based on recommendation
of the Business Department.
Charles J. Reilly Business Education Scholarship - Ashlynne Demshick
Established by the late Professor Emeritus Charles J. Reilly. Awarded to a graduating
student of the Business Department interested in teaching business education.
Christine M. Morrison Scholarship - Daniela Rich
Awarded annually to a graduating student in honor of Christine Morrison and the Morrison
family, who donated their estate for the establishment of Orange County Community
College.
Colonel John T. Westermeier Award - Morgan Mansueto
Established and generously supported in memory of Col. John T. Westermeier. Awarded
annually to a graduating student recommended by the English Department.
David Kotler Memorial Scholarship - Elisheva Slomiuc
Established in memory of David Kotler. Awarded annually to a graduating student who
intends to continue their education, preferably in Mathematics.
Dr. Cortland R. Mapes Biology Scholarship - Charles Vasquez, Antinea Sanchez, Amanda
Brosnan
Awarded annually in honor of SUNY Orange faculty member Dr. Cortland R. Mapes to a
graduating student(s), with a Biology major and continuing their education in Biology.
Dr. Hannah Vuolo Memorial Scholarship - Iliana Lopez
Awarded to a graduating student, planning to continue their education at an institution
of higher learning.
Dr. Manuel Rosenblum Theater Scholarship - Nicholas Kanan
This scholarship is in honor of Dr. Manuel Rosenblum, deceased Professor Emeritus.
Awarded to a graduating student, based on academic merit and recommended by the Arts
& Communication Department faculty.
Dr. Marvin Feman Scholarship - Michael Eaton
Established in honor of former Arts & Communication Department Chair, Dr. Marvin Feman.
Awarded annually to a graduating student recommended by the Arts & Communication Department.
Elizabeth Parkhurst Memorial Scholarship - Elisheva Slomiuc
Awarded annually to assist student(s) who transfer from Orange County Community College
to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution.
Evening Nursing Scholarship - Natalie Gerena
Awarded annually to a graduating student of the Evening Nursing Program. Award based
on academic merit and recommendation of the Nursing Department faculty.
Faculty/Staff Graduating Scholarship - Fatou Jammeh
Established though the generosity of SUNY Orange faculty and staff. Awarded annually
to a graduating student who is continuing their education at an institution of higher
learning.
Flo Hannes OTA Scholarship - Oluyinka Yesufu
Awarded to a graduating OTA student, who exhibits the qualities of a successful therapist.
Award selected by the OTA department faculty.
George F. Large Scholarship - Bryana Andreu
Awarded annually to a graduating student of the Architecture program who intends to
continue their education at an institution of higher learning. Award based on recommendation
of the Architecture Department faculty, merit, and leadership skills.
H. Seeley McClure Memorial Scholarship - Nikaiya Godlevsky
Established through a bequest from H. Seeley McClure. Awarded annually to a graduating
student who is transferring to an institution of higher learning.
Helen K. and George R. (Bucky) Bartlett Jr. Memorial Scholarship - Enrique Contreras-Nava
Awarded annually to a graduating Liberal Arts student who is continuing their education
at a four-year college.
Herbert M. Sussman Biology Scholarship - Amanda Brosnan
Awarded annually to a graduating student majoring in Biology and transferring to a
Bachelor’s program.
Ivan Medina Memorial Scholarship - Nikaiya Godlevsky
Awarded annually to a graduating student from a minority or underrepresented group
in the Criminal Justice or International Studies programs.
John B. Parkhurst Creative Writing Award - Maritza Jahn “Polar Opposites”, Elisheva
Slomiuc “Just Heaven”
Awarded annually to a graduating student by the English Department for creative prose
or poetry. This year’s recipient is recognized for a selection of short stories.
Max H. Golub Memorial Scholarship - Giovanni Scotti
Established in memory of Max Golub. Awarded annually to a graduating student from
the Business Department, who is majoring in Accounting and who will be transferring
to an institution of higher learning.
Newburgh Nursing Student Faculty Award - Catherine Ramirez
Awarded annually to a graduating student majoring in Nursing at the Newburgh campus,
who has displayed excellence in academics and selected by the Nursing Department faculty.
Odell S. Hathaway Scholarship - Vanessa Grisales
Awarded annually to an Orange County Community College student who desires to continue
their education in the field of History.
Orange County Society of New York for Collegiate Study Scholarship - Brythanie Despagne
Awarded to graduating student(s) for study beyond Orange County Community College.
Patrick B. Sweeney Annual Scholarship - Abigail Murphy
Awarded annually to a graduating student who is interested in studying the social
sciences, preferably counseling, at a bachelor degree granting college or university.
Retiree Council 14 of the NYS United Teachers Scholarship - Janacia James
Offered by the New York State United Teachers Retiree Council 14. Awarded annually
to a student who plans to pursue their education to become a teacher.
Ruth Pollack Memorial Scholarship - Chang Hong He
Awarded annually to a graduating and transferring student in the Performing Arts area.
Trustee Edward P. Dougherty Memorial Scholarship - Elisheva Slomiuc
Awarded annually to a student actively involved in academics and campus life, who
best exemplifies the excellent citizenship practiced by Trustee Dougherty.
Walter Albrecht Memorial Scholarship - Shawnty Reeder
Awarded annually to a graduating student continuing their education at an institution
of higher learning. Award based on merit.
William F. Ehlers, Jr. Scholarship in Anthropology - Sean Janes
Established by a generous gift of the Orange County Chapter, New York State Archeological
Association. Awarded to a full-time, graduating student, interested in pursuing further
studies in Anthropology, with an emphasis in Archaeology. Award recommended by the
Chair of the Behavioral Sciences Department.
William O. Bell Sr. Memorial Scholarship - Max Wolbeck
Awarded annually to a graduating Electrical Engineering student, with a 3.0 GPA, who
is continuing their studies in Engineering.
