Applying for Graduation

Graduation and participation in the commencement ceremony are not automatic. Students must initiate the process themselves.

Are you close to finishing your degree? Make sure you have followed the steps in your Path to Completion!

Step One: Review your Degreeworks and Meet with your Advisor

Review your Degree Works page to make sure you have satisfied all of your Graduation Requirements. Meet with your Academic Advisor to go over any requirements that you might not have satisfied.

If you need assistance with advisement (including making a virtual appointment with the Office of Academic Advising) please visit the Office of Academic Advising online.

Step Two: Apply for Graduation

A Graduation Application should be filled out online by students anticipating completion of ALL program/degree requirements according to the deadlines below.

Applying for graduation does not include participation in the Commencement Ceremony, For all Commencement information see the Commencement webpage.

Application Due Dates

Spring 2024	May 31st	February 1 - April 1	Students who apply by March 6th will be considered for potential Departmental Awards. Diplomas mailed in June. Any Applications received after April 1st will NOT be eligible to participate in Commencement.
Summer 2024 (May Commencement)	August 31st	February 1 - April 1	Must have no more than 6 credits or 2 courses that do not exceed 8 credits left to finish over the Summer 2024 semester and be registered for them in order to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Diplomas mailed in October. Any Applications received after April 1st will NOT be eligible to participate in Commencement.
Summer 2024 (No May Commencement)	August 31st	June 1- August 1	Diplomas mailed in October.

Step 3: Read your Email for Important Commencement Activity Information

SUNY Orange will be honoring its graduates with a Commencement Ceremony in May 2022.

Once your application for Graduation is processed, you will receive an email from the Vice President’s Office with information about the Commencement, your cap and gown and other activities. Please be aware of strict deadlines.

In the meantime, feel free to review the most up to date Commencement Information online.

Step 4: Celebrate!

Celebrate your achievements by sharing the Virtual Commencement with your friends!

Getting My Diploma

All outstanding obligations to SUNY Orange (tuition, fees, books, etc.) must be satisfied before your diploma or certificate will be released.

All diplomas will be mailed to the address that was provided on the Graduation Application. Please notify the Registrar’s Office at registrar@sunyorange.edu if you have had a change of address.

Request for Duplicate Diploma: If at any time your diploma is lost or damaged you can order a duplicate diploma. Please note the duplicate diploma will say duplicate on the back of it and will be ordered with the same name as your original diploma.

Notes about Graduation Requirements

An overall cumulative 2.00 GPA is required for all degrees and for an A.A.S degree a 2.00 GPA in major courses either cumulative or in each course is required in addition to the overall 2.00 GPA requirement.

If you are anticipating receiving transfer credits in order to complete graduation requirements at SUNY Orange you must have completed a “Permission to Attend” form which gets approved by the Registrar and indicates SUNY Orange will accept the course(s) in transfer. All official transcripts need to be received by the Registrar’s Office no later than 7 business days prior to the graduation date.

Commencement Information

Applying for graduation does not include participation in our one Commencement Ceremony held in May. Please visit the commencement page on the SUNY Orange website at http://www.sunyorange.edu/commencement/checklist.html for more detailed information about how to sign up to participate in the commencement ceremony. You will be receiving commencement information from the Office of the Vice President for Student Services. . Check your E-mail! All correspondence in reference to your graduation application status will be communicated via SUNY Orange email. Please check your email for important information and possible required action to be taken by you. Any questions should be directed to registrar@sunyorange.edu
