English and Math Placements

All incoming students will be assessed based on the following criteria:

English Placements

English placements will be determined by averaging

  • Your High School Grade Point Averages (HSGPA)
  • Your 11th Grade English Scores or English Language Arts Regents.

Action Required: If you have not done so already, please have your high school send your official transcript to the Office of Admissions. (We cannot accept transcripts directly from students.)

Math Placements

Math placement is determined in one of the following ways, depending on your prior education:

  • If you have a high school diploma, a superintendent's letter for homeschooling, or a college degree you will complete the Math placement survey 2026. This is not a test but a self assessment to reflect current math skills and help determine appropriate math placement.

If you have a GED, High School Equivalency (HSE), or an international high school diploma: You will complete an in-person assessment using Stemify.

Students with College, AP or CLEP Credits

You may not need placement if you already have qualifying credit. If you have earned:

A grade of "C" or better in a college-level English or math course
or have AP or CLEP credits in these subjects

You may be able to waive placement.

To request a waiver:
S
ubmit a Placement Requirements Waiver  and upload

  • an unofficial college transcript or
  • your official AP/CLEP score report for consideration.

Important: High school transcripts cannot be used to review a placement waiver request
