English and Math Placements

All incoming students will be assessed based on the following criteria:

English Placements

English placement is determined by averaging

  • Your High School Grade Point Averages (HSGPA)
  • Your 11th Grade English Score or English Language Arts Regents.

If you have not done so already, please have your high school send your official transcript to the Office of Admissions. (We cannot accept transcripts directly from students.)

Math Placements

Math placement is determined through a survey which is a self assessment to reflect current math skills and help determine appropriate math placement.

  • All students (except international students) will complete a math placement survey. The math placement survey for Spring 2027 will be available in early October.

If you have a international high school diploma only, you will complete an in-person assessment using Stemify.

Students with College, AP or CLEP Credits

You may not need placement if you already have qualifying credit. If you have earned:

A grade of "C" or better in a college-level English or math course
or have AP or CLEP credits in these subjects

You may be able to waive placement.

To request a waiver:
S
ubmit a Placement Requirements Waiver  and upload

  • an unofficial college transcript or
  • your official AP/CLEP score report for consideration.

Important: High school transcripts cannot be used to review a placement waiver request
