Exploring Academics

Application Process

Apply Now (Online Application)

1. Complete an online application 

2. Submit official high school transcripts or GED certificate and score report. 
- High school transcripts should be emailed from the high school to apply@sunyorange.edu

- A GED certificate and score report can be emailed to apply@sunyorange.edu.

- Students who attended high school outside of the United States must submit a credential evaluation of their transcript. Evaluations must be completed by a member of the National Associate of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). SPANTRAN does offer a course by course translation and evaluation for students. Please visit SPANTRAN for more information.

Please note, US citizens or permanent residents who earned a foreign high school credential MUST take the ATB if they wish to be considered for NYS aid.

Information for Home-schooled Students

SUNY Orange recognizes that many students go through home-schooled instruction to obtain their high school diploma. Students who wish to enroll into SUNY Orange as homeschooled students must submit one of the following documents before they can be considered for admission into the college:

  • A letter from the superintendent of the school district in which the student resides, indicating that the student has completed all the necessary requirements of Section 100.10 of the regulations set forth by the Commissioner of Education and has obtained the substantial equivalent to high school diploma.

OR

  • Documentation that shows a student has successfully passed the GED exam (previously known as TASC), which is recognized as a high school diploma equivalency.

Important information for New York State Residents:

"The Board of Regents does not approve correspondence study, including online, as equivalent to a high school diploma for New York State residents".

Educational Opportunity Program for Disadvantaged Students

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is an admissions program that provides academic support, individualized and group counseling, skill development workshops, and modest financial aid to support  success.

Available to first-time, full-time matriculated students who meet academic and income guidelines, the program supports students throughout their college careers within SUNY Orange.

English & Math Placement Process

All incoming students will need to complete placement requirements as part of the enrollment process. Placements will help us determine what level English & Math you can take in your first semester here at SUNY Orange.

Accepted Student Resources

  • Get connected and login to your SUNYOrange student portal
    • Students can check their Financial Aid status
    • Set-up their SUNY Orange email account
    • Set-up Proxy to access important account information
    • Check enrollment status through Student Academics Tab
    • Your acceptance letter will include your login credentials
  • Complete the mandatory NewSTART Workshop Requirements
    When you have fulfilled the placement requirement and have been accepted, admissions will send you an email with instructions on how you can complete the NewSTART Workshop. You may also get information on your NewSTART eligibility by visiting the Accepted Student Portal under the Student Academics Tab in your MySUNYOrange account. You'll complete the first part of the NewSTART Workshop on your own. The second part of the workshop will be a virtual appointment with an academic advisor, where you will register for classes. 

  • Submit final high school transcripts (upon graduation) and/or official college transcript
    • High School transcript(s) faxed directly from the High School are acceptable.

  • Submit Certificate of Residency forms

  • Online New START opens: Monday, May 20, 2024
  • New START registration appointments begin: Tuesday, May 28, 2024
  • Online application closes: Friday, August 9, 2024
  • Online New START closes: Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 11:59 pm. 
  • Fall semester begins: Monday, August 26, 2024
